About the Session

As AI-enabled technologies become embedded across engineering workflows, firms face a fundamental strategic question: how do we prepare, reskill, and organize the workforce to fully leverage these tools without losing the human expertise that defines the profession? This in-depth breakout session explores that question through the findings of the ACEC Research Institute’s latest Firm of the Future study on AI and the future engineering workforce.

The session will examine how AI and advanced technologies are changing job roles, skill requirements, and career pathways within engineering firms. Participants will be guided through a strategic framework that connects workforce planning and technology adoption, addressing talent shortages, closing emerging skills gaps, and preparing engineers and technical staff to manage, supervise, and collaborate with increasingly intelligent systems.

A moderated panel of industry leaders will share how their firms are navigating this convergence of AI and talent, from workforce upskilling and organizational change to rethinking productivity, performance, and long-term competitiveness. Attendees will leave with practical insights and a clearer roadmap for aligning AI strategy and workforce strategy over the next decade.
