Peter DeFazio served as the U.S. Representative for Oregon’s 4th Congressional District from 1987 to 2023, making him the longest-serving member of Congress in Oregon history. A Democrat, he was widely known for his leadership on transportation, infrastructure, the environment, and progressive policy issues, and he chaired the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Prior to Congress, he served in local government in Lane County, Oregon, and he is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
